Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 August 2026

This policy explains what AIXFamily collects, why, and how it's protected — across this website, the AIXFamily Parent app, and the AIXFamily Child app. We wrote it in plain language on purpose, in keeping with how we build the product itself.

1. Who we are

AIXFamily ("AIXFamily", "we", "us", "our") is a family safety platform based in Australia, made up of a website (aixfamily.com), a parent-facing mobile app and web dashboard, and a child-facing mobile app. This policy applies to all three.

2. What this policy covers

We collect different information depending on how you interact with us:

  • This website — currently a pre-launch page. If you join our early-access list, we collect only the email address you provide.
  • The AIXFamily Parent app — used by a parent or guardian to set up protection, view activity, and manage settings for their family.
  • The AIXFamily Child app — installed on a child's device by a parent, and used to apply the protections the parent has configured.

A parent or guardian account is required to use AIXFamily. Children do not create their own independent accounts — see Children's privacy below for how this works.

3. Information we collect

Account information

When a parent signs up, we collect the name, email address, and profile information provided by Google Sign-In (our authentication provider). We don't receive or store your Google password — Google handles authentication directly.

Family member information

To set up protection for a child, a parent provides: the child's name, date of birth or age, and (optionally) gender. This information is entered and controlled by the parent, not the child.

Device information

When a device is linked to a family, we collect a device identifier, device name, model, and operating system/platform, so we know which device a given setting or report applies to. We also store a push-notification token so we can deliver time-sensitive alerts (like a mode change taking effect) to the right device.

Location

If a parent requests it, the child app reports the child device's approximate or precise location (as permitted by the device's own location settings) back to the parent. Location is only collected when the parent-side app actively requests it, or on a schedule the parent configures — not continuously without the parent's action.

Screen time and app usage

The child app reports usage information back to the family's dashboard — for example, total screen time, time spent in categories of apps, and whether a limit or restriction has been reached. On iOS, Apple's Screen Time framework deliberately prevents any app (including ours) from learning which specific named apps a device has installed or exactly how they're used — our iOS reporting is limited to aggregate numbers for that reason. Android reporting can be more granular, consistent with what Android's platform permissions allow.

Content filtering (VPN/DNS)

Some protections (like blocking categories of websites) route a child device's network requests through a filtering service so that category-based blocking can be applied. This process inspects the destination needed to apply a category rule; we do not log, sell, or otherwise use a child's browsing history for any purpose beyond delivering the filtering the parent configured.

Conversations with Aria

Aria is an AI assistant built into the apps that explains blocked content and answers questions in plain language. Messages sent to Aria are processed using Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response, and the conversation is stored on our servers so it can be shown again later in the app. See How we share it for more on this.

Communications and support

If you email us or otherwise contact us for support, we keep a record of that correspondence to respond to you and improve our service.

Website waitlist

If you join our pre-launch list on aixfamily.com, we collect only the email address you submit, via our form provider (Formspree). We use it solely to contact you about early access.

4. How we use it

  • To provide the core function of the apps: applying the protections a parent configures, and reporting relevant activity back to them.
  • To operate features the parent turns on, like location requests, screen-time limits, mode profiles (e.g. Bedtime, Study Time), and content filtering.
  • To power Aria's explanations of blocked or flagged content.
  • To send notifications relevant to the family's settings (e.g. a device coming back online, a limit being reached).
  • To maintain the security and integrity of the service, including detecting tampering with the child app's protections.
  • To respond to support requests and improve the product.
  • To contact pre-launch list members about early access, if you've joined the waitlist.

We do not use family data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information.

5. How we share it

We share data only with the service providers needed to run AIXFamily, under agreements that limit what they can do with it:

  • Google — for Sign-In authentication.
  • Anthropic — processes messages sent to the Aria assistant in order to generate its responses.
  • Formspree — relays the website's early-access signup form.
  • Our infrastructure/hosting provider — stores app and account data on our behalf.

We do not share family data with data brokers or advertisers. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of a child or family using the service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case affected users would be notified.

6. Children's privacy

AIXFamily is a tool for parents to use, not a service children sign up for themselves. A parent or legal guardian creates the family account, and that parent's action of adding a child and installing the child app is the parental consent for the collection of that child's information, consistent with children's privacy laws such as the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Australian Privacy Act 1988's protections for minors.

A parent can review, change, or delete their child's information, or remove a device from their family, at any time from the parent app or dashboard. If you believe a child has provided us with information outside of a parent-managed family account, please contact us and we will act promptly.

7. Data retention

We keep family and device data for as long as an account remains active. If a parent deletes a child profile, unbinds a device, or closes their account, we delete or anonymize the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Waitlist emails are kept until launch invitations are sent or you unsubscribe, whichever comes first.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all communication between the apps and our servers, and standard access controls to limit who can reach production data. App/category identity on iOS devices is additionally protected at the operating-system level by Apple's Family Controls framework, which never exposes that information to us at all, regardless of our own security practices.

No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we design with the sensitivity of family and child data in mind at every layer.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you and your family, and to object to or restrict certain processing. As the account holder, a parent can exercise most of these directly within the app (editing or removing a child profile, unbinding a device, revoking location access). For anything else, or to close your account entirely, contact us using the details below.

10. International data transfers

We're based in Australia, and some of our service providers (including Google and Anthropic) process data outside Australia. Where that happens, we rely on those providers' own safeguards and contractual protections for cross-border data handling.

11. Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page whenever we make changes, and for material changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify parent account holders directly (for example, by email or an in-app notice).

Note: AIXFamily is currently in pre-launch. As we add features — including any future paid plans — this policy will be updated to reflect them before they go live.
